Create An E-book Library: It's Like Netflix for Textbooks!

The Issue

The high costs of college textbooks combined with tuition costs is taking a financial toll on students across America. According to the College Board, students will spend around $1,168 per year strictly on books alone. In fact, college textbook prices has significantly surpassed the percent increase of medical services, new home prices, and consumer price index over the last three decades. There has been an 812% increase in the price of college textbooks since 1980.

When factoring in all the additional expenses associated with attending a university; it is more than a student budget allows.  In order to decrease the financial struggle for students, we have created a solution.  The solution will not only help students financially, but also has numerous educational and environmental benefits.

We suggest implementing an Online E-book Library.  The E-book library will eliminate numerous costs that are associated with the use of traditional textbooks.  By using E-books, we would be able to conserve our limited natural resources and eliminate storage and transportation costs.

Traditional Textbooks

  • Heavy and Bulky
  • EXPENSIVE
  • Occasionally Out of Stock
  • Difficult to Navigate
  • Buyback price is Heavily Reduced
  • Hard to Take Notes on the Pages

E-Books

  • Never Out of Stock
  • No Need to Wait for Shipping
  • Easily Accessible
  • Easy to Search and Find Information
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Web & Multimedia Tie-ins (Flashcard, Practice Quizzes, Memory Games, etc.)

The textbook market is a huge money maker for publishers and universities across the nation.  In order to use the E-book Library there would be a monthly subscription.  Students would only pay a monthly fee of $20 in order to have access to all their required textbooks.  For an academic year (August-May), students would only have to pay $200 for an entire academic school years’ worth of books!  Students across the nation would save millions of dollars in only a year by using the E-book Library.

An E-book Library would be beneficial to students and professors across the nation because it is an affordable option for EVERYONE.Implementing the E-book Library is an easy solution for an ongoing problem.Together we can create this change. By signing this petition, we can become one step closer to making textbooks more affordable and accessible to ALL students across the nation.
