After almost 2 years of fighting with public works to get Fiber Counts we knew must have at least partially existed, I was finally provided with a "best effort" map by James Erb (our city's attorney) yesterday that has existed since 2014. They also confirmed that a full audit is underway to be completed in 2018 (supposedly). This was after years of public works, and some council members, telling the public that the existing network isn't useful. Is it perfect, no. Does it need to be expanded, yes (aka the Dig Once Policy). Can it be used to help break up the Big Telecom Monopolies and provide us with real choice. Yes! Plus, it's yours and you already paid for it. One does wonder though, since they've had this since 2014, and were asked for it in at least 2 public records requests, why they chose to pretend they didn't have it instead of just provide it to us in the first place. Oh well, at least we have it now.
