The City Council will be discussing the current state of the already owned public fiber in Bellingham at their Committee of the Whole Meeting at 1:45pm. The public is welcome to attend. I have asked them to please discuss the following points. I will post an update here, after reviewing the video of the meeting, as well. 1. An Audit of existing resources, since the publicly released map is listed as "approximate" and the public works dept. has admitted that they don't have all of the info on the publicly owned installs. Will an audit/relocate be done? This seems prudent. 2. A Dig Once Policy needs to be established so that at least 3" conduit starts getting installed when any repair is done. It's very inexpensive compared to any repair that requires digging up the streets. 3. No matter what the capacity, the public owns the fiber and should have access to it. Expanding existing infrastructure, to start, makes the most sense. http://www.cob.org/sirepub/mtgviewer.aspx?meetid=813&doctype=AGENDA The supporting documents rehash the Public Works Department's Views of the Situation.
