I've linked to an article about the current state of Net Neutrality. As I've previously shared, none of the large private providers in Bellingham support Net Neutrality which can have disastrous consequences for many Americans, especially the poor. For example without Net Neutrality connections, sites, let's just say online information in general, will often be prioritized by who can pay the most.
So reason number one-million and two to have a publicly owned network is that it changes the behavior of the private companies as well. Essentially it can help to "keep them honest." Still, why are we doing business with companies that most Americans hate when there is a better solution out there that would support our local community like a Publicly Owned solution? We can also set the rules on our own network and stop playing these games with this resource down the road. Knowledge is power :), if the people want to have power over their government, lives, etc. they need excellent access to information.
