Hello everyone, I hope you're all well. I had the pleasure of meeting with one of our candidates for County Council a few days ago, Amy Glasser. She supports the idea of public fiber and many other ideas that will increase the quality of life for our communities. I've put a link to her webpage below for anyone who would like to learn more. She is running in District 2. In the county people have even fewer options than in the city. Often they have one, or only really one, choice. I've met people in the county that are on data capped connections. Meaning that they are sold a plan with a certain usage rate attached to it, if they exceed that rate they are charged an arm and a leg for "overusage." To give you an idea of how little data they get for what they pay, they have indicated that the plan is not enough to stream Netflix with and that they still have to use the disc service. While this may seem like a first world problem on the surface, imagine this problem from multiple standpoints. How could their children possibly effectively do their school work on such a connection? How could they expand their small business on such a connection? How many trips would be saved getting the discs from their origin point, probably in Seattle most of the time, to them? How could they participate in NextGeneration Agricultural Development with no real information infrastructure to rely on? The list goes on. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's time for real choice provided via fiber :).
