Dear Petitioners,

I am sure many of you are aware of the recent 9th Circuit Court decision that called Boise's ordinance to cite homeless people for sleeping on the streets "cruel and unusual."  The lawyers in Portland's City Hall at first argued that the decision didn't apply to Portland, but within a couple of days, the police announced they wouldn't be citing people for sleeping on the streets. However, the police did say they would continue to arrest people for other offenses that are the result of people living on the street.  In other words, we must continue to push to stop the over-policing of people living on the streets.

Here is a useful article from Kaia Sands at Street Roots about the issue:

And today we have released a short one minute video of an interview with Nikki Williams explaining why she is against the policing of homeless in Portland.  Spread the word about the petition, and ask your neighbors to sign.

Cheers,

Elliott
