Wow! In just a few days, we have blown past 1500 signatures, and as importantly, we are getting politicians and organizations to endorse the petition. The full list of endorsements is below. Street Roots just published an important piece that highlights the experience their vendors have had with the police. We all know the incredible reporting the Oregonian has done to bring us the data about the aggressive policing of homeless people, and now, Street Roots has shown us the human side of these data points. Please read this story to understand how policing impacts the lives of the homeless neighbors you see everyday selling Street Roots at your local café and supermarket. There are still many people who don’t know about the petition, so the best thing you can do to help the effort is to talk to ten friends about it. Co-Sponsors: Elliott Young, Professor of History Lewis & Clark College Crystal Maloney, attorney James Ofsink, community organizer Reiko Hillyer, Assistant Professor of History, Lewis & Clark College Kaia Sand, Executive Director of Street Roots Sarah Iannarone, former mayoral candidate Jo Ann Hardesty, NAACP President, Portland Branch (2015-18), candidate for City Council Gregory McKelvey, founder of Portland's Resistance Cameron Whitten, Lead Advocate - Brown Hope Portland Civil Rights Law Office Democratic Socialists of America (DSA-Portland) Nadya Okamoto, founder of Period Movement Bobbin Singh, Executive Director of Oregon Justice Resource Center (OJRC)
