Thanks to your work disseminating the petition and talking to your neighbors, we now have over 630 signatures in less than 2 days! The Oregonian wrote a good article about the petition yesterday (linked below). We also have new co-sponsors, including the amazing Jo Ann Hardesty, former NAACP president of Portland Branch and current candidate for City Hall, and Gregory McKelvey, founder of Portland's Resistance, an activist group that formed in the wake of Trump's election. We will be seeking co-sponsors from organizations and politicians who support a compassionate response to homelessness. If you belong to such a group or know someone who does, reach out to them. I usually don't believe petitions have any effect, but in this case, because the issue is central to the future electability of our city leaders, they have to pay attention.
