Neighbors,
Last year, I formed Neighbors Together Oakland with the help of neighbors, local developers and small businesses, and we sued the city of Oakland for failure to follow its Homeless Encampment Management Policy (EMP). Recently, we learned that the City is attempting to defend the indefensible and fight against implementing the EMP. Our court date is May 19th.
The Mayor and City Council refuse to be accountable for doing anything to address the crisis in our city regarding homeless encampments. Using our taxpayer dollars to fight accountability is a trend in Oakland. The City of Oakland currently has over 500 lawsuits pending, many of them stemming from their alarmingly stubborn refusal to do whatever is necessary to keep our streets safe and clean.
Our lawsuit can help change that. If successful, an Alameda County Superior Court Judge will require Oakland to enforce its EMP. This means closing or properly servicing encampments that are not City sanctioned and are 50 feet or less from residences, schools, parks and businesses. We must have rule of law, our current streets are unlivable for both housed and unhoused alike.
We still need your help to win. Can you do any of the following today to help?

Now is the time for us to act. Help us demand accountability from the City to address our homeless encampment crisis and keep our streets clean and safe for all Oakland neighbors. We deserve better!
