Hello Neighbors,
Thank you again for supporting our petition to demand Oakland Mayor and City Council show courage and leadership in dealing with our unhoused crisis.
Last October, the Oakland City Council passed the Encampment Management Policy (.pdf), which stated that the encampments were supposed to be removed after six months and folks moved into housing. Calling themselves the “We Deserve Better” alliance, the group has filed a 70-page lawsuit against the city for failing to enforce the policy.
Our lawsuit has been ongoing, as litigation often drags on, especially during a pandemic, and we have been supporting our legal activism by doing the work in the streets to raise awareness about the plight of the unhoused and the effects this problem has on all of us. We should have a response from the City in January of 2022.
Today, we need your support in helping to continue our legal efforts. Every dollar helps, as we must keep the pressure on the city to do the right thing and enforce it’s Encampment Management Policy, providing urgent services and housing to the unhoused.
Please DONATE HERE to support today!!
Peace,
Seneca Scott
