In recent news reports, it was said that the 'control' program (SLAUGHTER) both in Seville and in Madrid would not start until next year! I have been working very hard on research and trying to come up with a solid case for their lives to be spared, and I thought we had more time.
At this minute, I am torn between rage and despair. It appears that the media had duped us with false hope, when it was announced that city officials were considering other non-lethal measures. Shame on Seville for launching this loathsome plan to capture and slaughter these innocent parrots!
Spain, the world is watching, and we are disgusted and appalled. These parrots are the innocent victims of the exotic pet trade and your Spanish laws that were enforced without the foresight to make provisions for the lives of these birds.“You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” -The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’. This gross injustice shall never be forgiven nor shall it be forgotten.
.."Under the supervision of Enrique Figueroa, Professor of Ecology at the University of Seville, the City Council has set out to curb the expansion of parrots. This week, six large cages have been placed in large trees in the Maria Luisa Park and another 15 on the roofs and terraces of the different municipal buildings in the area. In addition, various baits have been placed to encourage the parrots to come down from the trees. The live capture of the parrots will be extended until March 2020. Subsequently, the birds will be slaughtered with a veterinarian's surveillance following the legally established protocols.
Between February to May, laying period, the sterilization of the eggs in the nests will be undertaken."
You will see the video and photographs of the cages they have put in place by clicking onto the news article..MURDERERS!!!
I pity every single person who is responsible for this crime, from the people who trap them to the veterinarians who kill them, to the policy makers and the ones who have the power to stop this injustice but will not. I also pity the people of Spain who have to live with this, on their conscience and in their hearts, from here to eternity. SHAME!
I am in shock right now and do not know what more can be done. Please comment with any ideas or suggestions...
