The fair is stating loss of interest from people overall and lost revenue. . What they are not understanding is people don't like to be in a conflict situation. In their case a conflict situation is caused by Animal Rights groups protesting the cruel 'Pig Scramble'. Loss of revenue = the fair being boycotted in protest to the Pig Scramble. To me its easy you get rid of the Pig Scramble and the negativity surrounding your fair goes away or you keep it and continue to see a loss of revenue and interest. Which hopefully causes the Village to not even have a reason or need for the fair. It's 2017 be it you live in a small town or large city. The focus on animals has changed and will continue to change for the better because people like myself and other animal rights advocates will not give up and not stop being the voice for the ones who need to be heard. Petitcodiac is not getting any positive attention with the petition being shown around the world. Instead of potential tourists thinking its a nice place to visit they are looking at it as stuck in the past when it comes to how they think about animals. I personally would not choose to visit a small town with that mind set. I would however pull over and show my support to the protestors. I'm not a lawyer and by no means claim to be. But i believe in following the law and believe the legislative acts were put in place for a reason. By my personal perception of how it reads the Pig Scramble falls under section 445.1 of the Criminal Code 2017....everyone may have a different take on this. Cruelty to Animals Marginal note:Causing unnecessary suffering 445.1 (1) Every one commits an offence who (a) wilfully causes or, being the owner, wilfully permits to be caused unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal or a bird; (b) in any manner encourages, aids or assists at the fighting or baiting of animals or birds; (c) wilfully, without reasonable excuse, administers a poisonous or an injurious drug or substance to a domestic animal or bird or an animal or a bird wild by nature that is kept in captivity or, being the owner of such an animal or a bird, wilfully permits a poisonous or an injurious drug or substance to be administered to it; (d) promotes, arranges, conducts, assists in, receives money for or takes part in any meeting, competition, exhibition, pastime, practice, display or event at or in the course of which captive birds are liberated by hand, trap, contrivance or any other means for the purpose of being shot when they are liberated; or (e) being the owner, occupier or person in charge of any premises, permits the premises or any part thereof to be used for a purpose mentioned in paragraph (d).
