Dear Supporter, Victory!? With reference to the Navhind Times Article on 30/05/2017 consultant Anand Kulkarni has refused to render his services. We all know that we supported this petition because we care about the character of Panaji and the value of an Architect in an Urban Design project. That the opposition corporators agreed to our petition only reinforces that the concerns are valid. It is sad that forces are trying to politicise a demand for urban design in a city that has such strong local and historical context, which we, as citizens have a right to. We will take this one step forward by advocating that the CCP follow the process of an Architectural Competition. Stringent Guidelines for competitions are prescribed as per the Architects Act (1972) and enforced by the Council of Architecture (A central govt. agency responsible for standards of practice of the profession in the nation) Advantages of a Competition are as follows: 1) A possibility that an outstanding design will emerge: This gives the chance to draw upon the talents of all those who respond to the architectural challenge, and the possibility that an outstanding design will emerge. 2. Client has a choice: Architectural Competitions give the Client a choice from the best viable projects and with a variety of approaches. 3. Wide range of ideas: Competition brings out a wide range of ideas and concepts and gives the Client the choice of electing that which fits into his specific requirements. 4. Greater public interest: Also, by promoting a Competition, the Client makes a public demonstration that he cares about Architecture, and can take legitimate pride in his determination to find the best Architect and the best design he can get. He will be rewarded with a greater public interest then what is generally shown in new buildings. GUIDELINES FOR COMPETITION ARE DETAILED IN THE FOLLOWING LINK: https://www.coa.gov.in/index1.php?lang=1&level=1&lid=239&sublinkid=260
