Petition updateMayor of Cornwall Referendum: Let Cornwall Decide!MAYOR: What happens when London insists we have one?

UPDATE: Our campaign is starting to work. The leader of Cornwall Council and the MPs are wobbling. BUT... they still all say that if "London says no" and forces us to have a Mayor if we want a 'Devolution Deal', they will do what they are told by their party's new prime minister.

Our best guess is that the Government will insist on a Mayor. In that case, our call for a referendum on this is more important than ever. If the Government wants to force this on Cornwall even though our own Conservative MPs and Council leaders have asked for No Mayor, then we the people have to decide. In the legislation it is clear. Councils can call a referendum on a change to a Mayor being in charge. That's what we are calling for. Simple as that. A decision by all voters, not a decision by as few as 44 councillors from one political party. That would be a stitch up that the people of Cornwall would never accept or forgive.

If you haven't do so already please sign the petition and send it to your friends, family and workmates. We intend to present it to the Council in November. So far, including street stall signatures, we have over 6,000 signed. The more we get the more we are listened to. And towns and parishes all over Cornwall are voting to back the call for a referendum.

WANT TO HELP? One of the best things you personally can do is to ring, email or text your own councillor and ask them simply: "Will you vote to support the people deciding whether Cornwall gets a Mayor?" You can find your own Cornwall Councillor here:
