BREAKING NEWS: We understand that wannabe-Mayor, Council Leader Linda Taylor, intends to accept the Government’s Mayor of Cornwall Deal in principle WITHOUT EVEN HER CABINET having a debate/vote.

She has now received the Government’s proposal we are told. But none of us have seen it. Not even councillors. We are also told that she will use “delegated powers” as Council Leader to rush through a decision to accept the Mayor Deal and start a “public consultation” in September.

She so far has said NO to a vote by us the people - unless our petition is backed at a full council meeting in November. She will then try to strong arm her councillors into voting a Mayor-controlled Cornwall through, without a public vote, early next year.

Will this bogus “consultation” ask you if you want a referendum or even ask you if you want Cornwall run by a Mayor? Who knows, Linda Taylor is in charge of the process. So far councillors who represent you have not had a say. They weren’t even allowed a debate.

Now Linda Taylor, who says she wants the circa £80,000 job of Mayor (double her annual leader allowance), won’t even let her own Cabinet have a say. It’s a jaw-dropping abuse of power and some might say an early taste of how a Mayor of Cornwall could be unaccountable in the future.

What’s going on? It’s all becoming increasingly murky and unpleasant.
