A Metamorphosis for the Boston Public Schools

A Metamorphosis for the Boston Public Schools
The Issue
The Boston Public Schools are in a crisis. Superintendent Brenda Cassellius is leaving, along with principals, teachers, and students. The turnover and chaos is detrimental to our students. We need help.
1) We call for a new superintendent who is focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. In addition, he or she must be committed to educational excellence for all students, especially the most marginalized.
2) Music, dance, arts, theatre, writing - we call for a new emphasis on the arts within the BPS. The arts are crucial to our childrens' development, just like math and science.
3) Foreign language learning - a top priority in a globalized world.
4) Athletics and health - Our children need to play team sports; to run, jump, and climb; to be kids. They need nutritions meals in the schools as well.
5) Gardens - we call on each BPS school to transform a parking lot or rooftop into a community garden/ farm. Children need to learn how plants grow, if we are ever to tackle the global challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss
6) COVID - Not one more death from COVID in Boston. Schools can be places of transmission, and we must do whatever it takes to reduce spread of the virus, and new variants, within school walls.
