It’s now been nearly TWO YEARS since Oakland’s City Council unanimously voted to approve an urgently needed Encampment Management Policy (EMP).

While the City failed to implement this policy, more than 800 people died while homeless in Alameda County over a three-year period spanning 2018 to 2020. Most from drug overdoses and related issues.

Businesses are failing and neighbors live with fear of violence and property damage due to the out-of-control encampments. Instead of enforcing the rules, the City has continued to allow open air drug encampments to thrive and grow. These issues impact poor, minority neighborhoods disproportionately with the vast majority of open air drug encampments being located in the flatlands.

The negligence has gone too far. It’s time for Oakland to implement the EMP and give our unhouse neighbors the help they need. That’s why Neighbors Together Oakland filed a lawsuit against the City of Oakland last August for failing to follow its own rules.

Our lawsuit has finally come up in Alameda County Superior Court, and we will need YOUR help to succeed.

Please Sign the petition today to support our lawsuit to demand the City of Oakland act immediately to enforce its Encampment Management Policy, and restore fairness and freedom back to residents.
