Save Tropical Park Miami
The Issue
Recent reports have indicated that a group of eight people led by A local attorney are considering repurposing tropical park or a portion thereof for a football stadium. Reports have indicated that the format of the stadium would be like the original Orange Bowl. That could very well mean crowd capacities in the 35,000 to 80,000 range as nothing yet has been finalized.
We, the undersigned residents of Miami Dade County are petitioning the county mayor to prevent this from occurring. Tropical Park has existed since 1931. 91 years this facility has been the crown jewel of Dade County.
Since 1979 the park has served the county hosting approximately 1.5 million visitors each year. The current football facility is home to many local high schools for their games. The local track and field competitions are held there. Numerous outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, freshwater fishing, racquetball, tennis and people that just want to enjoy the peacefulness of the park in the middle of a major metropolis.
Not to mention the diverse wildlife population that also calls Tropical Park home. Virtually anyone that grew up in Dade County has memories of going to the park as a child. Birthday parties riding their bikes or just going for a walk with a parent. This park means the world to us and we wish to preserve it for generations to come.
Mayor we, the undersigned ask that you take measures to protect this space for those future generations.
Sincerely
