Word on the street is that demolition of the pavilion could begin as soon as today. We need you to follow up with calls and emails to Mayor Kenney and other City officials to impress upon them the importance of the City of Philadelphia setting a strong example of historic preservation and adaptive reuse of our built heritage with this City-owned property.
As we pointed out previously, though some contend that to block the demolition of the pavilion at this late stage would set back execution of the park improvements by years, that needn't be the case. The pavilion itself occupies such a relatively tiny piece of the park footprint that it can easily be worked around without significantly altering the overall design.
