The heat and humidity has been unbearable this week. I took a portable temperature and humidity thermometer outside it registered 124 degrees. That means the concrete at 97 degrees could potentially be 145 degrees in the Sun. So if the thermometer is reading 124 in the sun how hot is it in an UN-air conditioned 30 year old building?

Meet Moma Lady (A472641). We used Moma Lady picture for the update. Mama Lady is one of our sweet senior dogs, removed from a neglectful situation two months ago. Our amazing volunteer Gillian took these pictures of her during her bath time, and this is what she had to say: "This precious senior girl is so  calm, gentle, and trusting, that she also allows her ears to be cleaned, and her nails to be trimmed. MAMA LADY has some medical needs. If we can find the right family who will care for her, they will be rewarded beyond measure. "How could anyone say no to that face? Meet Cano (A470008) has been with us for 100 days. This isn't a milestone; it is not a reason to celebrate. It's heartbreaking. Cano, like most of the dogs that come into our facility, came in as a stray. He had been found tied up behind an animal hospital, all alone and very fearful. Cano has had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life, mostly because of his fear and distrust of other dogs.

Meet Coco (A467278) is a 9-year-old female dog who weighs approximately 60 pounds. Coco was initially surrendered to our shelter back in February. Adopted 5/6for two weeks then returned to OCAS on 5/6/21

Meet our featured local rescue - As part of my updates I will feature a local rescue that is stepping up and helping the last change dogs at OCAS.

We continue to be in a financial crisis due to 4 dogs in boarding w/ no foster offers Mazi is currently undergoing weekly chemo treatments. He has spent the last TWO months in BOARDING since he lost his foster. We currently have a bill of $1415 just for him alone. We desperately not only need donations to cover his bill but we need to get him OUT OF BOARDING. He does not deserve to continue chemo in a kennel setting. Mazi is UTD, neutered, HW- & microchipped. He’s good w kids and other dogs but does best w females dogs. Cats are unknown. He walks well on a leash and is house trained. We are seeking a committed foster or adopter to open their home to this cancer baby. He has around 6-8 more chemo treatments to go.
If u can donate towards his bill please do so one of the following ways:

Please contact Orange County leaders how we can reduce the heat and humidity in OCAS.  Everyone is miserable in this heat and humidity, the dogs, shelter workers and volunteers and potential adopters.
