RIP Sampson
It is with a heavy heart that I make this petition update. Sampson was adopted yesterday and when taking this frighten and scared dog out of the kennel there was an incident.
Sampson was euthanized yesterday. RIP Sampson.
My heart is BROKEN!!!!! In memory of Sampson his picture is on this update as a reminder that we must bring about change.
Diesel (A467791) has until the end of the day today to have a shelter pull him and a foster home found. It is imperative to have a full time behaviorist / trainer at OCAS for dogs like Sampson so we do not have any more "incidents" along with a veterinarian clinic that can handle all emergencies.
Our petition signature rate has slowed a bit. So please continue to share the petition. The more signatures the bigger the impact.
I have had people tell me they have received a response from Diane Summers, Shelter Manger. In her reply she criticizes the concerned person for being a part of the problem and not a part of the solution because she did not find the persons name as a volunteer or foster for OCAS. She went on to state that OCAS is considered a "NO KILL" shelter by Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS). The BFAS "NO KILL" badge is awarded to shelters that have a 90% or better live release rate. BFAS does not give much guidance or requirements on the other 10%. OCAS just barely meets the requirement for live release with a rate of 90.3%.
OCAS does not have any incentives to improve its current practices to retain this "Badge of Honor" and seemingly is very proud of its current status.
This is outrageous!
Please continue to contact our city decision makers about your concerns on the management, the euthanasia policy and how they preform euthanasia transparent.
Commissioner Wilson has requested the Mayor and the other commissioners to look into the 34million dollars allocated to the new shelter. We also need to continue to bombard the Mayor and the commissioners with phone calls, emails, and posting on the social meeting about the outrage the community and the world have about the City Beautiful's ugly secrete.
Once the money has been found it needs to be used in the most cost effective manner. Rather than using an architect with outrages fees the shelter could use designs from other state-of-the-art shelters that have already been constructed. There might even bee an animal loving company that will donate their work.
