What an amazing start!

Thank you for your continuing interest in my petition and support.

I am so happy that in only 3 days my petition got almost 1000 signatures.
This makes me really hopeful that I can report success fairly soon.

Why is a state of the art facility that will safe harbor our community and its domestic companion animals not a priority?
Why is Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) still a KILL shelter?

County shelters with less population have full-time behaviorist and trainers that work with the dogs to walk, play and enrich the animal, and teach volunteers how to work with shelter animal. OCAS doesn’t employee either. Not even part time.

Currently the weather will be in the 90’s or higher for the foreseeable future. In our county we are allowing the animals to live in squalor conditions that reflect back to the “Dog Pound”  visuals of cages filled with loads of dogs and cats. To that end the facility is horrendous.

There is no air condition for the dogs. The animals are terrified and are being forced to live together in kennels. Even if a kennel card states “Dog must be alone! Does not like other dogs!”, the is housed with other dogs.

The existing OCAS facility was built in 1987 and was never intended to be a an adoption center, just a holding facility. It is outdated and overcrowded.

The dog kennels do not have air conditioning. They can reach over 100 degrees during the summer months.

Funding of $34 million was allocated in the 2017 Orange County budget. Yet plans have been halted indefinitely due to COVID. The state of emergency for Orange County was officially declared over by Mayor Demings during his State of the County presentation.

The animals need help immediately. These animals need a new shelter with a fully equipped veterinary hospital, a behaviorist' and a trainer. There needs to be changes to OCAS process and policies, also.

These animals need to be a priority!
