Thank you for signing our petition to lower speed limits on San Mateo Streets. We are happy to announce that the City has completed installation of lower speed limits around many schools. : )
Unfortunately, we need your help again to keep our streets safe for kids who want to bike and walk to school in San Mateo. The City of San Mateo recently announced that it is considering ripping out the new bike lanes around San Mateo High and College Park/Fiesta Gardens Elementary Schools on Humboldt. These two year old bike lanes increase safety in North Central, an equity priority community with the highest rate of crashes in the City. A few years ago, a driver hit a 68-year old person riding their bike on Humboldt, putting him in a coma and breaking several ribs. Nevertheless, many in the City believe that free on-street parking is a higher priority than keeping residents safer.
Please sign this petition, asking the City to keep the bike lanes in place and instead spend scarce taxpayer dollars and staff time accelerating safety projects on Alameda, Hillsdale, 3rd Avenue, Norfolk, 19th Avenue, Fashion Island, and Delaware.

Please also plan on attending the January 21 City Council meeting which will determine the fate of the new bike lanes.
Thank you for doing your part to make our safe streets in San Mateo!
