Thank you again for your support of slower speed limits around San Mateo schools. The next step in our quest to make the streets safer for kids is to save the North Central Bike Lane project.
The City of San Mateo has for some time planned on building bike lanes on Humboldt and Poplar in the North Central neighborhood. These streets are adjacent to several schools in the area, especially San Mateo High (1,700+ students) and College Park Elementary School (450+). Without bike lanes, we will continue to see serious injuries for cyclists in the areas around these schools. A year ago a cyclist was put into a coma after being hit by a driver on Humboldt. Unless we change things, most kids will continue to commute to and from school via auto, increasing congestion, pollution, and danger for those on foot and bike.
Please take 2 minutes to email the City of SM and let them know that you support the North Central Bike Lane project and safer streets for our students. Here are the important emails - citycouncil@cityofsanmateo.org, SandICommission@cityofsanmateo.org, clerk@cityofsanmateo.org
Also, please plan on attending the City Council meeting on 2/22 at 7p. Thank you for helping San Mateo's streets safer for all,
Mike Swire and the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition San Mateo chapter
