Hi all,

Thank you to those that spoke before the City Council this week in support of safer speed limits around San Mateo schools.  At this meeting, the Public Works Department presented their proposal for where and how to lower speed limits around schools.

The City Council was very supportive of the initiative.  All members said that it is imperative to lower speed limits around our schools.  Council Member Diane Papan even called this out as the most important action that the City could take this year given its ability to save lives.

Unfortunately, the proposal only covers 2/3 of the schools in San Mateo.  Several schools will not see lower speed limits: Aragon, Bowditch, Baywood, Meadow Heights, Nueva, and others.  We are working with the City to ensure that the initiative benefits as many kids as possible, including those that serve toddlers, preschoolers, and others.

The funding, design and implementation processes will still take some time.  Hopefully we will be able to see the new speed limit signage installed early next year.

Thanks again for your help in making the neighborhoods around our schools safer!  Stay tuned for more info on how you can help in the future.
