Hello friends of Divest LA, Five months ago, we created the campaign for the City of Los Angeles to divest public funds from Wells Fargo for its long history of corrupt and unethical banking practices. After a hard-hitting grassroots campaign led by local activists, LA City Council unanimously voted to begin the process to divest $40 million in holdings from Wells Fargo, in addition to a comprehensive overhaul of the city’s financial framework. This was a testament of the true power of coordinated and strategized public pressure. And we’re going back in. In Phase 2 of Divest LA, we are pushing the city to divest its entire depositories and financial services with Wells Fargo. Through the legislative process – we’re aiming for their BILLIONS. But that’s not all. Something extraordinary is happening across the country. In major progressive cities from Seattle to San Francisco, Oakland to Washington DC, divestment campaigns are creating an organic pathway towards the PUBLIC BANKING movement.
