Petition updateMayor David Lim and the City of San Mateo, Please Don't Take Away Our Ice RinkHUGE NEWS: SPI Announces They Will Reopen San Mateo Ice Rink!

Yesterday, SPI announced that it will reopen the San Mateo Ice Rink at Bridgepointe. SPI will withdraw its $8 million offer and no longer seek to convert the rink property to retail. We are unsure how long it will take for the rink to reopen. SPI will now need to enter into a long-term lease with a rink operator; the rink may require improvements due to years of inactivity.
While we have certainly had differences with SPI over the past five years, we commend them for recognizing the community's passion for the rink and ultimately doing the right thing. We believe it is also a smart business decision, as a thriving ice rink will bring tens of thousands of incremental shoppers to the mall.
Thank you for your years of hard work. Without the passionate support of community members like you, this would not have happened. We greatly appreciate the thousands of hours put in by you and others - writing letters, attending community meetings, recruiting supporters. It all paid off!
Please leave a comment at the bottom of the attached Daily Journal article. It would be great if you could thank SPI for their announcement and swift reopening of the rink. Please also thank San Mateo Councilman Joe Goethals, who played a key role in negotiating a win-win for all parties.
We will be in touch soon with additional information. This includes next steps around the rink proposal in Burlingame.
Congratulations and time to celebrate!!!
