I'm shocked and disturbed The City of Jacksonville Beach and Beach Energy are still refusing to protect endangered and threatened nesting mother sea turtles and baby sea turtle hatchlings by ignoring the effect of light pollution (artificial light) used along their beach shoreline.

After fighting for over 3 years now, we still have broken promises, after broken promises of changing the illegal parking lots lights adjacent to beach accesses and right next to the sand dunes. These have 25-30 foot light poles with super bright LED light bulbs, which is against Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Sea Turtle Protection Rules.  FWC and the DEP rules state that only red or amber LED Sea Turtle Friendly lights are to be used that close to the beach. The COJB and Beach Energy told me the illegal lights would be switch before May 1, 2020 and the illegal lights on 1st Street will be shielded and/or changed to amber LED lighting by July 1, 2020.

We have not STOPPED FIGHTING this huge uphill battle. This is far from being over. A new sea turtle nesting season is less than a month away and we are still waiting on the City of Jacksonville Beach to do the right thing to save the baby sea turtles from dying in Jax Beach.
