Remove Christopher Columbus Statue in BUFFALO NY

The statue of Christopher Columbus on Niagara St in downtown Buffalo is a disgraceful showing of support of a man who committed genocide against indigenous people. By keeping this statue in place, we are signaling that Buffalo stands by Columbus’ actions, which also include sex trading young indigenous girls, took people from their homelands and forced them into slavery, and was an overall terribly cruel man.

Though it shouldn’t take additional motivation, cities around the country are removing similar statues. Buffalo claims to be the city of good neighbors, and an “All-America” city. The values that Christopher Columbus represents are not those of a good neighbor. This statue must be removed immediately. Failure to remove this statue signals support to racism against all people of color, especially black and indigenous people.
