NYC's budget may be finalized as early as next week. Please, contact your local council member today to ask that they restore funding to community composting (which includes GrowNYC and the Compost Project).
Most effective method? Calling. Here's a link to find your local city council member's number.
If you don't have time to call, here's a 1-click email to send. Just fill out your name, neighborhood, and add a subject line; it auto-populates the rest.
What's at stake? 90 local composting jobs, over 5 million pounds of food scraps processed locally every year, 193 food scrap drop-off sites, training for community composters (including 91 master composters), support for community gardens & community compost sites, and much more.
How much will this cost? $7 million, which is 1% of the NYPD's overtime (not salary- just overtime) budget.
Hopefully, by hearing from all of us, our council members will restore community composting.
If not, we'll have no publicly funded composting for at least a year.
