Community Board 11 in the Bronx just received notice of another planned 140 single men shelter on White Plains Rd and Bronxdale Ave (2028 White Plains Rd). This will be the third shelter in less than 2 years. 

The city is putting two 200 single men shelters in Community Board 11, one on Blondell Ave and one on Poplar Street. Why do we need shelters in Community Board 11 for 540 single men? Our homeless population does not match this number. The Department of Homeless Services has not been transparent with our communities. 

The Bronx ranks fourth out of the five boroughs in population, but has more homeless shelters than any other borough. The city must place these shelters equally amongst the five boroughs. 

We are not against homeless shelters but we are demanding equality. Single men shelters are being put in our family oriented neighborhoods, near our schools and houses of worship. 

We need a middle school in our neighborhood and a community youth center. The mayor must look at our needs before forcing another shelter into our community. LISTEN TO YOUR COMMUNITIES!!!
