Commission Black Lives Matter Street Mural in NYC

The Issue

This past week, Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington D.C. commissioned a street mural reading “Black Lives Matter” just steps away from the Whitehouse. Mayor Bowser has taken a stand on the right side of this historical fight, telling her city and our president that All Lives cannot matter until BLACK LIVES MATTER.

With a population of 8 million+, New York City is the biggest city in the United States. With such a big influence as a center of this world, we must take a stand on the right side of history; We must tell the world that Black Lives Matter. Just as Mayor Bowser rallied her city around this cause, I call upon Mayor Deblasio to do the same, and commission local organizers, artists, and activists to recreate this mural. We need a mural in our city, and we need it today.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has been a great supporter of the movement, and I call upon him to help us make sure this mural gets painted, in honor of those lost to police brutality and those who face the effects of 400 years of systemic oppression and Black genocide. Sign this petition now to demand our city takes a stand. Additionally, I encourage you to send emails to Mayor Deblasio bdeblasio@cityhall.nyc.gov and Governor Cuomo Governor.Cuomo@exec.ny.gov demanding the commissioning of this mural.
