Thank you!

It is very heartening to see and feel all of the support for this initiative.

We have 22 days left before we have a public hearing with the district where the current proposed initiative, Tantalus Gardens, by Quma will be:

A: Voted by Mayor and Council to move forward as currently proposed

B: Asked to adapt or adjust the current proposal to take out the underground parking lot or reduce the number of units etc.

C: Delayed until the Local Area Plan is completed

D: Denied

What I am inspired by with this movement is that it's not about saying NO to development, it's about considering an alternative that has the potential to really impact and support community on a grassroots level. It feels like it might be possible for the community impacted by this to actually have a voice – but we have to speak loudly.

If you have signed this petition because you aren’t 100% in support of Tantalus Gardens, either because you do have questions or think the current proposal needs to be modified, that is a good & viable place to be. It is realistic and feasible to think that Tantalus Gardens could be asked to eliminate the underground parking lot and/or reduce the number of homes they are proposing to put on this space. It is also possible to think they could be asked to define and prove affordability.

If you have signed this petition because you don’t want Tantalus Gardens to be what fills that space - I want to introduce an alternative you can say YES to, The Roundabout.

The Roundabout is a financed initiative proposed by a Horseshoe Bay resident who wants to buy the land back from Quma and preserve & develop it as community space. He will incorporate the existing historic building AND create actual affordable living spaces, work-spaces, and gathering spaces. The plans are shaping up and they truly are beautiful, inspired, collaborative and in keeping with the spirit of the current community.

I initially got involved in this matter because I was frustrated and surprised by the process (bullying) and one-sided support offered by the district to the builder, with a blatant disregard for fact and a non-transparent process.

I remain involved because I want to see a fair, transparent process AND, now, because I am inspired by the plan for The Roundabout, inspired by those who are raising their voices to be heard and are fighting to preserve something that is important to them, something that truly has the potential to engage and embrace community.

There will be pictures and plans for The Roundabout available in the very near future. I will share them when I have them.

For now, please keep sharing the content posted here with those you think may be interested, write down your thoughts and ideas, and reach out if you have questions.

If you are interested in doing something more, please send a letter to MayorandCouncil@westvancouver.ca include your home address or the letter will not be counted.
