Thank you so much for all of the signatures and words of encouragement. So happy to see the 100th signature moments ago! : ) I would like to be very clear that both the school district and town administration have been fully aware of this obstacle for quite some time. It is beyond me why they have chosen to actually fight this legally with your tax dollars. They could have used that money to fix what is clearly non compliant with basic building code. We tried every avenue prior to filing complaints with the state. We even asked for two reasonable accommodations: 1.) our son being permitted to invite peers to accompany him in the special needs van; and, 2.) our son being allowed to use paratransit with a friend. Both of these options were declined by senior level school administration as not consistent with school policy. Yet we were required to give written permission for an adult "to help" our son down the non compliant hill, presumably because of legal liability should he become injured. Why can't they simply acknowledge their mistake and fix the problem? I am more than happy to backup everything that I have written with hard documentation. Also note that the town's Commission on Disability has documented this issue over many months. Minutes can be found on the town web site. Both the district and town have had ample time to do the right thing. Again, thank you dearly for your support! We are so excited to send the petition to the MAAB on Friday. It is good to demonstrate that Scituate residents (and others) care. It also means the world to our eleven year old to read your supportive comments. Now he doesn't feel so alone with this issue. With much gratitude, Jean
