Petition updateSafe Pedestrian Access for AllFreedom for All

Sincerely appreciate the signatures we have received to date! I want to explain why this path is so important to our son's freedom--and other children that follow him. Our son was assigned to the Jenkins School because Scituate would not make the necessary modifications to the Cushing School so that he could use the boy's bathroom on the upper level as well as some exterior access issues. We were told that the Jenkins school was "new and 100% accessible for a wheelchair." The interior of the school has been great and for that we are thankful. But the lack of pedestrian access to First Parish Road has become increasingly more difficult as our son has grown older. All we want is a safe path for our son to be able to accompany his peers into town, to CCD class, walking field trips,, and on Walk to School Day. Since Scituate has elected not to make all of its elementary schools accessible, we believe that it is important that at least one be 100% accessible. While it is probably too late for our son, please consider asking at least one other person to sign this petition for the benefit of other children or staff that will use Jenkins in the future. The time it takes to resolve access issues is significant--unfortunately the Town can delay and delay until time runs out. We need to hold them accountable for not building code compliant exterior access. Please help!
