SB390 / HB344 - Education - Due Process Hearings for Children with Disabilities - Burden of Proof
This is the third year that parents and special needs advocates are trying to get the bill passed to shift the burden of proof to schools in special education due process complaints. The goal of the bill is to provide accountability for special education services for our children and help level the playing field in the due process hearings, especially for those of us who cannot afford attorneys. Even after we have showed our legislators over 1,900 signatures on our petition in favor of this bill, some still think this is only a problem for very few families in Maryland. They can ignore a sheet of paper, but they can't ignore us if we have a large number of supporters show up to sit in the audience of the hearings.
If this bill is important to you, please come to Annapolis on
Wednesday, February 25th at 1:00 and join us in the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Awareness Committee hearing room, room 2W in the Miller building on Bladen St.
and/or
Thursday, March 5th at 1:00 in
the House Ways and Means Committee hearing room
room 131, House Office Building
Our strongest opposition is in the Senate, so if you are deciding between two, please come this Wednesday
And WEAR RED to show your support.
