Dear friends of special education, Thank you for signing the petition to support changing the burden of proof to the schools in special education due process hearings. This is an important civil right for our most vulnerable population and will help provide accountability for the services, programs, and placements that only the schools control. We have been gaining momentum since the last legislative session and we hope to be able to pass this law in 2015. However, we need your help to show our legislators how important this bill is to us. There are many candidates running for office - from local Boards of Education to the Maryland General Assembly - who support the burden of proof shift. The election is 3 weeks away and early voting starts next week. Please check out the candidates, in the link below, that support special education and let your voices be heard through the ballot box! If your candidates are not listed in the link, please contact them directly to see where they stand on this important issue. http://www.burdenofproofmd.org/background-and-burden-of-proof/elected-officials-special-education-questionnaire/ Thank you for you support and for all you do for special needs children every day. Appreciatively, Barbara Krupiarz Member, Maryland Coalition for Special Education Rights & Burden of Proof
