BPS staff work remotely Wed-Fri with principal's approval

The Issue

Many schools are closed, therefore, many BPS school staff will bring their children into school or call out sick Wed-Fri.  If they bring their children, how much thoughtful planning will take place with kids running around? -Nevermind the possibility of spread! If staff call out sick,  how will we ensure students are receiving adequate planning of thoughtful instruction?
I am recommending it be up to principals to allow staff to work from home Wed-Fri, to come up with remote plans, rubrics,  ways to communicate with students and families and ways to assess students work. Principals will approve that individual teachers have created these work plans and sign off on their remote work as if they were in the physical building for those days.
I understand there are a lot of moving parts. I am speaking to you on behalf of teachers, paras and other school staff who want to be there for our BPS students, their own children and prevent the spread of the virus to their loved ones and the community at large.
Respectfully,
Allison Doherty,  Mother, Daughter, Special Education Teacher, Boston Teachers Union Executive Board Member
