The Portuguese Instituto da Conservaçao da Natureza e das Florestas (ICNF) is the government agency legally responsible for Martinha's care.

ICNF states "since 2016 Martinha is using a new tank holding 1500 m3 of water, 5 meter depth and 800 m2 surface, with physical filtration, UV treatment and a protein skimmer with ozone and she has access to live prey and naturalised housing conditions."

ICNF also state that "Presently, there is no other realistic solution that would improve her welfare."

Martinha's Rescue Coalition believe an independent assessment of Martinha's situation is desperately needed. Help us to encourage the responsible body to allow access to Martinha – for her sake!
