Tue, 6:30p - Public Hearing with Planning Commission

Hello, everyone, The Planning Commission public hearing for 68th & Carr (Hillside Cottages) is upon us, this Tuesday at 6:30pm at City Hall. The more of us there, the greater the impact we can have. (And there will be a sign-in sheet, so Planning Commission and City Council will know how many community members are there.) Here's how it'll go: 1. The commission will go through an opening routine (Pledge of Allegiance, call to order...), then, 2. the developer will present their proposal for rezoning and developing 68th & Carr. When they're finished, 3. it's opened up for public comment. Those speaking on behalf of groups go first (and have 10 minutes each). Group topics currently include: - The proposal's conflicts with Arvada's Comprehensive Plan, and the community's petition (see below*) - Traffic and traffic safety issues - Incompatibility of multi-family housing in the existing neighborhood Those speaking for groups will ask the public to stand, if they agree with the point being made. (That's where our cumulative attendance matters. Lots of people standing makes an impression.) Anyone is allowed to speak on behalf of a group, and has 10 minutes. Individual speakers come next and have 3 minutes each. (Not speaking? Skip to 4.) You're welcome to speak for a group or for yourself. If you do, caution: Rehashing a point that a previous speaker already made is frowned upon. But simply stating your agreement can be a plus. When public comments are finished, the developer has an opportunity to address them. Then, 5. the Commission can ask questions of the developer and the public, and then they confer among themselves. And last, 6. they make a motion (approve, approve with conditions, or deny) and vote. Their vote then goes to City Council, along with attendance numbers, meeting minutes, and other case info. The hearing on Tuesday shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Literally HUNDREDS of neighbors in the area are opposed to this. Chances are good that your neighbor is. Talk about carpooling to City Hall. And arrive a little early to get parking and seating.
