For the past 20 years Arizona State University's Barrett Honors College has protected professors who sexually abuse students. ASU silences victims and protects accused professors.

The grooming process at Barrett begins in mandatory freshman Human Event seminars, and progresses to Study Abroad trips, teaching assistantships, and thesis direction. ASU Policy acknowledges the power a professor holds over a student makes sexual and romantic relationships inherently exploitative.

ASU received reports that former Barrett professor Eric Susser exposed himself to students in 2002 and sexually harassed students on Barrett Study Abroad in 2005, but he wasn't fired until 2012. He is one of 11 current and former Barrett professors listed in a Title IX complaint currently under federal investigation by the Department of Education.

There are still faculty accused of sexual harassment teaching at Barrett. Professors should not receive "slaps on the wrist" for sexual misconduct, as they have in the past. Predatory professors must be terminated so they can't take advantage of more students.
