Concerned residents on Bells Ferry, Turner and White Circle
Jul 14, 2017
MUST Variance tabled again until August 28 Adam Rozen, attorney for MUST Ministries in Variance 2017-22 (to build a homeless shelter within 750' of a residential property) asked that the case be tabled until August 28th. This is to continue the discussion with neighborhoods and to present plans for the new shelter. The petition page has been updated with a blog discussing what has been learned about Elizabeth Inn and its impact on the business community and public safety. 911 incident reports show numerous calls from Elizabeth Inn and surrounding merchants. There are some recent photos posted as well. We believe strongly that MUST needs to cease Day Services at the Inn, specifically giving free lunch and dinner to the unsheltered population who are camping in the area in very close proximity to neighborhoods. If Marietta approves the Variance, it should require that the campus be closed except to guests and volunteers. MUST should not permit any other organizations to use their property to distribute food. We learned today that there is a homeless encampment on a 4 acre tract on Bells Ferry near Cottage Dr. It is owned by Cobb EMC. Please tell your neighbors about this issue and ask that they sign the petition. We are close to 100 signatures. If you see anything suspicious, call 911. Thanks to District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, Cobb DOT, Cobb Police and City of Marietta for being proactive in addressing community concerns. Be vigilant and stay safe.
