At present anyone in Maribyrnong can cut down any tree on their private property without any permit unless it is on a significant tree register, but there is no significant tree register in Maribyrnong. This petition calls on council to follow the example of neighbouring councils to adopt a  Significant Tree Register.

Not part of the original petition up to 524 signatories, but also to think about, is a default diameter permit system, whereby all trees above a certain diameter require a permit before removal.
