So far an incredible £11,915 has been donated to the Youth Homeless Helpline crowdfunding appeal - that's enough to make the helpline 24 hours for 72 days. We are raising funds to launch the first out-of-hours helpline for young homeless people in Wales. Currently, the only helpline support operates Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. That leaves 5,840 hours each year in which young people facing homelessness are left without anywhere to turn for help, support or advice. The time immediately after a young person becomes homeless is absolutely critical. Without access to the right support and advice, many young people are forced to make an impulsive and potentially dangerous decision about where to sleep that night. The more time that passes, the more dangerous these decisions are likely to become. By providing somewhere for young people to turn for information about where to access support, and advice on how to keep themselves safe, we can prevent a young person falling into the cycle of homelessness.
