Canada is a state built on colonial land theft and forced separation of Indigenous children from their families. That shameful legacy continues to this very day, both against Indigenous people as well as refugees, immigrants, and Canadian citizens who as a result of Canadian policies are forcibly separated from their loved ones. This stands Canada in contravention to a wide variety of international legal commitments to the best interest of the child, the rights of women, and the right to family.
