Why is this still happening to our vulnerable children with disabilities especially the non verbal? Assaults and neglect - two reasons the first being unskilled untrained and often uneducated support workers in disabilities and providers who put money and profits before care and actually do not care about the person's in their care but they care about the money they get from them. Thirdly without cctv cameras for evidence and the truth the people who harm the disability person will always get away with it. This poor boy was in hospital for four weeks after this assault occurred in care and the workers would not tell his family what happened and who hurt him and of course he is non verbal. My heart breaks for the mother she thought she could trust this organization but now knows she cannot.
Truth is we cannot trust any providers as their main focus is the money and they lie and cover up incidents. No one reported her sons condition to the mother she made a chance visit to the house thank God she did, and found her son bleeding bruised and scratchefd and sitting alone on the couch.
The workers would not even call an ambulance for Corey and left him unattended without any first aid or comfort against health and safety regulations. The mother had to push them and make them call the ambulance and they would not answer her questions.
Disgusting treatment toward the son and the family by the provider to not care for her son and leave him in that state. The mother blames herself for putting him in care and he wont let her hug him. Yet parents should be able to put their children in care if they need to without fear of them coming to harm! Proper checks and oversight by ndis in person needs to happen or we should be suing the Ndis for lack of care to our children.
For shame the provider should be prosecuted under failed duty of care yes negligence by the provider under civil law for sure. As for the assault the police said they would only go after that but how will they know who hurt the vulnerable young man? No cameras and providers get away with it. Judges often throwing out case due to 'lack of evidence'.
The house needs to be shut down or face penalties at the least by ndis. How ridiculous to say the wellbeing of their clients comes first and then let this happen to the poor poor.
How dare they!
There needs to be a reckoning for these providers and who take the persons money and then do not care for them properly with little if any care standards, and ignoring the person's needs l and not upholding health and safety.
I thought everyone knew what providers especially in residential care are like but more and more children are being born wit disabilities and then coming into houses like this with parents not realising providers do not care properly. The providers must be held to account and constantly told what you expect of them no wonder parents in the end give up and just don't want to risk the abuse that happens in disabilities care.
Abuse is still happening but should not be again the Australian government is not protecting the most vulnerable from harm. We need to push the government to do right by our disability children.
All the best Anndrea x
