Two teachers of a special needs classroom have been sacked in Texas, America for hurting a five year old autistic boy in their class – slamming him to the ground and then kicking him. Why are they teachers? What kind of system is that? And where is the care of the most vulnerable in society? It is the same here in Australia, in disabilities care places, schools and daycares for young children. Our children who are the most vulnerable in society are harmed all the time as if it is ok to do that. No teacher or carer has the right to do that to any person or child especially with a disability.
The mother of the little boy went to the school after her son came home from school limping with a sprained ankle and fracture, she found out later in emergency. She was shown at the school when she went to investigate the incident, the cctv video of what happened and saw the teachers hurt her son. She said she fell to her knees and cried after seeing her son was showing signs of distress and not one teacher stopped to assess him. Nobody cared she said. That is the greatest betrayal thinking our children will be cared for and then they are not – in fact they are attacked by the very ones we trusted especially in disabilities care and these days in childcare no child is safe at all. Our children and vulnerable ones are at risk or harm.
This mother said she wants justice and that although the teachers lost their jobs they were not behind bars where they should be. I agree those who hurt the defenceless and particularly children should have higher penalties than just community work. If a policeman is assaulted that person who did it is charged and sentenced. If a disability person or child is assaulted very little penalties are paid by the perpetrator and this needs to change. It is not giving the most vulnerable equal justice. In fact it is saying that society does not care about those who are very young or have disabilities. It is inequality and wrong in a democracy which our countries are supposed to be. The government also has a responsibility to care for those with disabilities and protect those children by signing the United Nations Childrens rights charter. Yet we see these attacks and little done. The government only springs into action if it affect business for instance childcare businesses making money now shutting down from so much abuse due to uneducated workers and lack of reporting or accountability nationwide in Australia. Similar to disabilities where workers also are not trained properly or taught on disabilities in higher education of any kind. They the support workers and the childcare educators, come in ignorant and remain that way until they lash out due to not knowing what to do. Also the same in childcare. Covered up by the organizations they work for all in the name of money.
The mother of the little boy said she never expected her son would be treated like this by teachers especially those running his class. She said he is autistic and nonverbal – our children who cannot talk are sitting ducks for the bullies and wolves that work with them and cannot defend themselves. We expect them to be protected and when the opposite happens we are shocked. The mother said she has trauma now that will always be with her and so does her son. For shame it should not happen. Lucky they had cameras at the school to catch that as these incidents also happen in Australian schools and preschools and disability care.
I have never gotten over when my son was harmed I never thought anyone would do that to him but if you get a worker who thinks they can bully and get away with it they will or they have no education or understanding of disabilities and no patience they will lose it. The organizations should be sued and the workers sued when they hurt our children. If we cannot get criminal charges on them, since the bar is higher of evidence, then we must go to civil law and sue the organization so that they learn not to hurt our children and get away with it. And maybe it’s a good idea for the government to pay workers to get some higher education and training while they work with the most vulnerable. We must protect our children from harm as the schools and disability organizations do not. Sign my petition for cctv in disability care so that we can get justice for our children and catch perpetrators who harm them

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KHOU) - A Texas mother is demanding justice after her 5-year-old son, who has autism, was allegedly slammed to the ground by his teacher in an incident captured on security video.
Two teachers at Wild Peach Elementary School were fired over Oct. 30 surveillance video that allegedly shows one of them slam a 5-year-old student to the ground and the other kick the boy’s injured ankle after the incident.
The victim’s mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez, says that’s not enough. She says her son has autism and is nonverbal.
“This is trauma that my son and I will carry forever,” Rodriguez said. “I wasn’t expecting to see my son be treated in such a manner.”
She says her son came home limping on the day of the incident. When she took him to urgent care, she learned he had a fracture and a sprained ankle.
The next day, she went to the school demanding answers and asked the principal to open an investigation. That is when she saw the video, and she requested to see more. Footage from less than an hour before the incident shows the teacher who allegedly slammed her son to the ground dropping him.
“I dropped to my knees and cried,” Rodriguez said. “My son was showing signs of distress, and not one teacher stopped to assess my son. Nobody cared.”
The Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District confirms that both teachers involved were fired.
“Part of me is relieved, but I’m not satisfied with the way they’re handling this at all. Neither of them are behind bars. They’re still walking free,” Rodriguez said.
She says her son has not returned to school since the incident, and she’s exploring her legal options.
A letter from the Wild Peach principal states the school district notified the Texas Education Agency about the incident and the district’s police department reported it to the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office."
