Happy Mothers day?! What is happy about it when women who are mothers of disability children and adult children, are suffering because their children are being hurt and even dying when they are put in Disabilities places for the day, for care, for a program where potentially they are never safe. Mothers end up with depression and PTSD due to the stress and anxiety of worrying over their disability child’s life now and future. WE cannot allow this to keep happening!
Mothers of children with mild intellectual disability (not even severe level) or Autism were between 35% to 40% more likely to die of Cancer during the study period of the research at WA (FAirthorne et al 2014 “Early mortality and primary causes of death in mothers of children with Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder”) 150% more likely to die of cardiovascular disease, and nearly 200% more likely to die from misadventure than other mothers – misadventure meaning accidents, suicide, homicide. The three primary causes of death or early mortality of mothers of disability children were noted as these: cancer, heart attack, misadventure.
Parents need more support in caring for their children and more support from the Australian government – they talk about mothers facing domestic violence, depression, breast cancer,
- rarely do they note the extreme stress, anxiety, and depression, and isolation in looking after a children with intellectual disability and the fact that a mother has to spend her life fighting for that child because that child will be harmed or hurt even in so called care when mother needs a break to recover and get back her mental strength and energy….
Neither do they note the arrogant lying uncaring attitudes of providers, mothers of disability children face when trying to fight for their child - We need to recognize and Australia needs to recognize what they are doing to their women who are suffering trying to care and also having to fight for their vulnerable disability child. The fear of the future for their child causes an anxiety and depression knowing that they in fact cannot protect them because the providers make it so they cannot protect or know what has happened (without cctv cameras for the truth) and the police will not protect or investigate the incidents of harm properly ever unless perhaps death. Why should it come to that? That’s just evil.
in a society that is meant to care or politically correctly cares, for the vulnerable, but in reality does not, more disability children face medieval attitudes by the government and providers who allow incidents of harm and cover it up and a justice system that wont look at the incidents....politicians so arrogant who think they will never be the one with a disability when they may well end up like that in aged care themselves who know? It will come back on them one day.
All children with disabilities face a life time of risk of harm – 8000 incidents of serious harm occurred in a year in NSW 2019 to 2020 (Harris 2020)and Stuart Robert said that wasn’t much! When the minister for NDIS has no heart or compassion for those with disabilities it will follow that neither will the NDIS or provider ravenous wolves who make money out of our children and adult children who are so vulnerable. WE must stand up and fight for our children’s rights and our rights as parents to protect them from harm and exploitation.
CCTV cameras need to be made mandatory by the government with legislation to the effect that the providers will not be paid or under NDIS if they do not comply with the criteria, or law, we need to push for this. Protection from harm is a human right and to protect our children from harm is United Nations human right of parents. This has not been upheld by our government. In order to protect our children’s lives now and their futures we must fight push for the cameras to be made mandatory for if we do not do this now, we will one day suffer or see our children suffer if they have no protection in places of disabilities programs, care, or accommodation. Even worse after we are no longer here to protect them. Australia must protect the vulnerable in disabiliities it is the same as America in its neglect...
From Cameras protect Children in America
“Students with disabilities, particularly students who are non-verbal, are at greater risk of abuse and do not have the ability to report mistreatment. Cameras in special education classrooms would provide peace of mind to parents that their children are treated with dignity and care when at school. Video and audio surveillance increase student and staff safety. Cameras protect educators from false accusations and promote improved training to address challenging student behavior. “
