The Issue

Just recently, my boyfriend surprised me with a lovely bouquet of  flowers for Valentine's day. Initially, I checked it for lily flowers – known for their high toxicity levels to cats - and found none. Unbeknownst to me, there were unbloomed lilies in the bouquet i had missed when previously checking. A few days later, my cat knocked over the vase and ingested parts of these potentially fatal flowers. Thankfully, I was able to get my cat to the emergency vet immediately, but not everyone may be as fortunate. Each year, countless felines risk poisoning since many pet owners are unaware of the danger lilies pose. According to the Pet Poison Helpline, lily ingestion can result in severe kidney failure in cats, causing potential fatality in as little as 24-72 hours. I believe prevention is the key. It is very important that all flower companies are mandated to put clear warning labels on any bouquets containing lilies, highlighting the potential danger they pose to cats. This simple act could save countless loving, furry lives. Not all heroes wear capes – some just sign petitions. Sign this petition to help protect our feline friends.
