The Issue

Those in Michigan, have been forced to unfortunate situations such as (hotels, living with family, some are even living in their cars or homeless shelters). Due to the exorbitant rent costs which are simply too high to manage. We understand the need for property owners to earn, but when the costs climb to two or three times the average income, it becomes a barrier to even the most basic housing right.

Alot of property owners are not offering adequate housing that equates to the price of the property. Rental rates in numerous properties notably exceed affordable thresholds for many Michiganders.

We are not asking for charity. We are asking for fairness. The balance between the right to make a profit and the right to live in affordable, safe housing leans heavily in favor of property owners. That is why we are requesting the implementation of state oversight of property owners in Michigan, to ensure that rent doesn't surpass reasonable limits based on average state income.

The state's intervention would be a significant step towards ensuring its residents aren't displaced from their homes due to excessive costs. In a country defined by freedom and fairness, no one should have to live in dire need because their wages cannot cover the high costs of rent.

Please join us in urging the Michigan State Government to implement this oversight and help Michiganders retain their rights to affordable housing. Sign the petition.
